Marbled chocolate brownie cake

Over the holidays my mum made this cake while I was visiting Slovakia.  It looked so irresistible I just have to share it with you. You can make it in square  tin or round one as we did which looks lovely. Make it as a treat for Sunday or for any celebrations. It will serve 8-10 people as it is very rich. Serve with fresh fruit of  your choice, berries work really well.

Its a very easy recipe, but the results are deliciously indulgent. Just follow the instructions below!

Here is how to make it:

For the brownie
180g unsalted butter
180g dark chocolate 70% or more
4 eggs
200g caster sugar
100g plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
40g cocoa powder
Pinch of salt

For the filling
150g mascarpone
40g icing sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 170C. Grease the cake form with butter and place a baking parchment on the bottom.
Melt the butter with chocolate in a bowl over a pan with boiling water. Make sure the bowl doesn't touch the water and do this very slowly. In a different bowl, whisk the eggs with sugar until pale and fluffy . Add the cooled melted chocolate and incorporate. Add the flour bit by bit , then baking powder pinch of salt and cocoa powder. Mix well. Pour the mix into the prepared form.
Next prepare the filling. Mix the mascarpone with icing sugar, add the egg and vanilla extract and mix well.
With a spoon, evenly dollop the filling around the top of the cake. Then with the end of the spoon, whirl the filling around to create the marble effect.
Place in the hot oven and bake for 20-25 mins.
Serve warm or cold, with fruit and whipped cream.
